THE LANGUAGE OF BEES

the language of bees is highly technical and based on pheromones, fundamental to the functioning of the hive. What is particularly interesting is that the interdependence is fundamental, since if a bee is separated from the group, it inevitably goes to death within 2-3 days.

Every "individual", in fact, plays a precise role, aimed at the wellbeing of the entire community.

For the support of a beehive for a period of one year, it is necessary the availability of honey, pollen and water, for whose production is fundamental the mode of communication. These energy resources could not be produced if each bee acted in an individual way.

It must be said that even today there are aspects that are not yet clarified as regards the language of bees. Karl Von Frisch, who received the Nobel Prize in 1973, is certainly an important part of his contribution to this argument.

If we were to indicate with a single adjective this type of language, I believe that the best in absolute is "symbolic", since the bee does not only communicate to the companions where the food is, but also all the various difficulties that could be in the path. For this reason, the bee bottinatrice, once identified the source of nectar, returns to the hive and gives all the exact indications on the position mediated certain movements that remember very closely a dance. In the circumstance where the source of food is at a distance not exceeding 25 meters from the hive, the dance of the Bee will be circular, or else very closely remember an 8. In essence, the greater the distance, the more the dance will be slow and the more the abdomen will be swated. Once the other bees have sniffed the nectar on her body, they begin to dance with the Messenger Bee and then fly in search of the flowers with a similar odor.

Consider then that the dance in question also serves to signal the exact location of the source of the food compared to the sun and not just the distance. If the source is in the direction of the sun, the straight movement will be upward; If the position is opposite, instead, it will be down. If the source of the food is not in the direction of the sun, the dance axis will be slightly tilted. Specifically, the angle that forms the vertical specifies the angle between the direction of the sunlight and the position of the nectar.

Chapter pheromones. We are talking about odorous substances that are produced by an "individual". Once sniffated by other APIs, a certain behavioral reaction is recorded. The Queen bee's are classified as primary pheromones and, of course, exert more control over the entire colony. In short, the language of bees is decidedly sophisticated, technical and symbolic.
